The European Foundations Award for Responsible Research & Innovation (http://www.rri-tools.eu/european-foundations-award-for-rri) call for proposals was launched on September 15th 2015 with the aim of celebrating excellent research practices in which the process requirements of RRI have successfully been integrated throughout the research process.

We gratefully partnered with the national coordinators of the RRI Tools project to disseminate the call for proposals. Covering 30 European countries, the RRI Tools hubs were able to reach out to thousands of interested researchers and innovators.

After the closing date on December 7th 2015 we were delighted to count almost 200 eligible applications from across Europe and even beyond. Applications have been submitted from 25 EU member states as well as from Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey. The highest number of applications came from Spain, Italy and Belgium. The diversity of projects submitted by the applicants is high, ranging from health to energy research and from humanities to physics.

All applications have been first evaluated on their eligibility. In a second phase a preliminary assessment of research quality and congruence with the principles of RRI has been executed by a multidisciplinary team of Delft Technical University (the Netherlands). In the third round the proposals were evaluated by an international jury of renowned academics in the field of RRI. They selected the fifteen most inspiring and promising research and innovation practices. Please subscribe to the EFARRI thread to stay tuned!
