In its Women, Research and Universities report, the League of European Research Universities (LERU) identifies the challenges that women face in the course of their academic careers. In addition, LERU specifies four priority areas in which universities can usefully undertake gender actions: (1) leadership, vision and strategy; (2) measures for achieving structural change; (3) strategies for effective implementation of those measures and (4) steps for addressing the lack of a gender dimension in research.
The report’s guidelines are written clearly and are well organised into four gender bias ‘facts’ and two university action areas. The report also contains a useful section on LERU’s conclusions and a summary of its recommendations for universities and other stakeholders.
Organisational requirements and time frames depend on context and participant numbers.
