Incorporating Social Responsibility as transversal topic in University curricula.

Building synergies among University communities and other societal stakeholders

Are you a ...

  • Socially Reponsible University or interested in becoming one?
  • Member of a University community?
  • Societal stakeholder interested in the USR concept?

The USR-NET project promotes the incorporation of University Social Responsibility (USR) in University curricula and the synergies among Universities community and other stakeholders. In this respect, the project is developing a learning guide of transversal contents for Socially Responsible Universities along with a set of awareness-raising actions targeting stakeholders inside and outside Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

The project is based on 4 main axes

  • Reflection on USR and its different dimensions
  • Inclusion of USR in University curricula and actions within University communities
  • Synergy between University communities and other stakeholders (enterprises, schools, NGOs, policy-makers, institutions, etc.)
  • Exchange of ideas and transfer of knowledge through practice among different actors.

Following a 3-layer approach

  • OPENING UP MINDS. Providing an open space for all interested and related stakeholders to engage in a process of discovery, discussion and exchange on the USR concept and role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
  • UNLEASHING INNOVATIVE IDEAS. Promoting interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral cooperation to achieve the right conditions for innovative ideas to flourish and foster creativity and sustainability within and outside HEIs.
  • ADDING VALUE. Implementing and incorporating USR in University curricula as transversal action, focusing on regional and sectoral particularities, needs and weaknesses and addressing prevalent issues on an ad hoc basis (ie. environment, gender equality, employment, etc.).

Project objectives

In this respect, the USR-NET project aims to promote synergy and links among HEIs communities (professors, students and staff) and related stakeholders (enterprises, schools, NGOs, policy-makers, institutions, etc.) having an influence in the labour market and society as a whole.
In particular, USR-NET aims to

  • conduct a mapping of socially responsible organisations and create a stakeholder database to promote cooperation and synergy
  • design and test a transferrable blended learning package of transversal contents on HEIs social responsibility to be incorporated into students’ curricula
  • define a proposed roadmap for possible action and urge for commitment to adopt this package and a USR transversal approach in University faculties.

Project target groups

The project aims to encourage the transfer of knowledge, synergies, good practices and sensibilisation both inside the University community, but also outside, involving all possible social responsibility and civil society stakeholders.
As such, the project targets mainly:

  • University students
  • University staff (professors, researchers, administrative staff)
  • Professionals from different sectors (enterprises, public authorities, policy makers, schools, NGOs, associations, civil society as a whole)

This approach enhances the project impact at local and regional level, promoting a more enriching USR concept while taking into account all the different perspectives and key actors.
