ROAR is a searchable, international Registry of Open Access Repositories indexing the creation, location and growth of open access institutional repositories and their contents. It aims to promote the development of open access by providing timely information about the growth and status of repositories throughout the world.

The ROAR website, whose layout is very sober and minimalistic, allows users to:

  • perform ‘simple’ searches or specify a full range of fields in the ‘advanced’ search, including country, discipline and type of repository (e.g., e-journal, institutional, multi-institutional)
  • view entries added in the past week
  • browse entries by country, year, repository type, institutional association and repository software
  • add new repositories (after registering for an account)
  • explore repositories in Google Maps using Repository66.
